What pulls me toward designing, developing, and deploying databases?

As the world becomes more connected, between the IOT, SaaS/BaaS/PaaS B2B and B2C solutions readily available to every business imaginable, there is an increased need to pay attention to data, its flow in and out of the company, and its value. Almost every piece of software that all of us use is attached to a database. Most businesses realize the need for a relational database solution when they have outgrown their paper-based process or trying to use flat-file systems (i.e., Excel) as they were never intended. Because database development can make workflows more efficient and users more productive, I get a tremendous amount of satisfaction out of building these systems.
